The Science Behind the Magic: Behind the Scenes with Curation

Have you ever wondered how we decide what is planted on the grounds at the Arboretum and how we keep track of our plants? Have you heard whisperings of a Dukes County Flora project and the existence of an herbarium, but never actually seen it? If you’re interested in learning a little more about the science behind the magic of Polly Hill Arboretum, come to this workshop for a behind the scenes tour of some of our less well-known collections and processes. Participants will tour the herbarium with Curator/Assistant Director Emily Ellingson, take a peek at our historic and modern records and archives, and learn the basics about how we make decisions when it comes to acquiring plants and planting them for all to enjoy.
