The documentary, Taking Root, tells the dramatic story of the Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai, whose simple act of planting trees bloomed into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment and protect human rights.

After the screening, filmmakers Alan Dater and Lisa Merton will speak about Maathai’s Green Belt Movement. Rev. Margaret Bullitt-Jonas will share the faith community’s response to the climate crisis and how to cultivate wisdom, compassion and courage in an age of climate change.

Co-sponsored by the Green Team of the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury, Grace Church, St. Andrews Episcopal, and Polly Hill Arboretum.
