Description: Join author, plant taxonomist, and teacher Arthur Haines for this field class to identify and sample various wild food plants available in the late spring season. Learn how traditional people around the world incorporate wild plants in their diet for health and variety. For these people, food is a defining feature of their culture and is evident in their collecting tools, containers, songs, and rituals. Haines will share his vast knowledge of natural history—wild and traditionally-prepared foods, herbal medicine, nutritional healing, primitive skills, survival, ecology, and native awareness. This class is a follow up to Saturday’s talk Preserving Native Plant Knowledge for Their Future.
