Join Martha’s Vineyard biologist Dick Johnson for a talk detailing the latest data on the spread of lone star ticks, and new information on deer tick larvae. The presentation will also briefly cover the ecology and life cycles of the three common ticks on Martha’s Vineyard.

A biologist with a background in marine invertebrates, Dick Johnson has worked for the Boards of Health of the six Island towns as the head of the Martha’s Vineyard Tick-borne Illness Prevention Initiative, AKA the Tick Program, for the past 8 years. The Tick Program focuses on education and awareness around ticks and tick diseases while working to address the root causes of the epidemic of tick-borne illnesses on the Island. Prior to his time managing the Tick Program, Dick was the Executive Director of Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation for nearly 20 years. He and his family have lived and worked on Martha’s Vineyard since 1990.
